Is the official trade fair app worth it as a sales tool?
Short answer: no, but not because they are poorly made. They do a different job. Official apps (Messe Frankfurt, IEG, BolognaFiere, Fiera Milano) serve to navigate the trade fair: map, calendar, exhibitor list. For the sales workflow (lead capture, CRM, follow-up, ROI) they were never designed.
Official trade fair app
Useful for the visitor, limited for the exhibitor
The apps of the major Italian trade fairs do well what they are made for: helping visitors orient themselves (15,000 sqm of halls at SPS Italia, 4 Cibus halls, Fortezza da Basso at Pitti). Interactive map, conference calendar, exhibitor list, QR badge scanning.
What they do not do: integrate with your CRM, enrich prospect data, send follow-ups, generate executive reports, manage multilingual workflows for foreign buyers.
Linkly
Dedicated system: lead capture, CRM, follow-up
Linkly is designed exclusively for the exhibitor's sales workflow. Six AI agents work from badge scan to follow-up email, through enrichment from 25+ sources, configured qualification, company CRM activation, immediate executive report.
It does not replace the official app for navigation. It complements it for the job the app does not do.
What one does, what the other does.
Trade fair map and event calendar
Natural function of the official app, Linkly does not replicate it.
QR badge and business card scanning
Both digitize, but with different results (see below).
OCR optimized for trade fair layouts
Official apps are generic for all trade fairs; Linkly is tuned to Italian and EU badges.
Automatic contact enrichment
Official apps stop at the badge data. Linkly adds email, phone, LinkedIn, company data.
Configurable qualification questions
Official apps have no structured qualification; Linkly applies questions tuned to your business.
Company CRM integration
Critical: official apps keep contacts inside the app, Linkly sends them to the company CRM.
Automatic follow-up email
Official apps do not send email for you. Linkly sends a personalized template in seconds.
Post-fair executive report
Official apps offer at best a CSV export. Linkly produces an executive report with heat score, estimated pipeline, recommendations.
Multilingual export workflow
Official apps are in Italian + basic English. Linkly applies templates tuned to the buyer's language.
GDPR audit trail
Official apps comply with GDPR but do not offer a commercial audit trail. Linkly tracks the legal basis for each lead.
Changes every trade fair
One app for SPS Italia, one for Cibus, one for EICMA: 6-12 different apps per year. Linkly is one, everywhere.
Cost per exhibitor
Official apps are included with the booth. Linkly costs €1,900/year all inclusive.
Linkly is not always needed.
To be honest: the official trade fair app is sufficient in three scenarios. If you fall into one of these, Linkly is probably over-engineering for you.
- 01 You attend only one trade fair per year. The Linkly cost (€1,900) is justified with 3+ events per year to amortize configuration and team habits.
- 02 You sell products with a very short cycle, decision at the booth. If you close orders on-the-spot and do not need follow-up afterward, the official app + Excel are sufficient.
- 03 Annual events budget <€20,000. Linkly is designed for organizations that invest €30k+ in events. Below this threshold ROI is marginal.
